The Chevrolet SSR Base for 2005: Improving on 2004

Chevrolet SSR

The restyled SSR Base is equipped with a General Motors 6.0-liter 8-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 16 valves. The Vortec engine is paired with a General Motors 4-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The SSR uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

SSR Base Statistics

The dimensions of the SSR Base are 78.60 inches wide by 191.40 inches long. It sits a comfortable 64.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 116.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

A powertrain warranty is provided (36,000 miles/36 months), and a 36,000 mile, 36 month guarantee also comes with the Chevrolet SSR.

Cost is always a factor when looking at a truck. The Chevrolet SSR lists at $42,555 when new. The dealer cost on the truck was $39,789. This price was in line with the industry standard price for a 2-door convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2005 SSR is a traditional SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 25.00 gallons.

The SSR Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of fifteen in-city driving and nineteen when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green truck, this was subpar.

In Summary

The 2004 model began the promise of the Chevrolet SSR. The 2005 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the SSR Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.

There’s no doubt that Chevrolet is up to it’s old tricks with the SSR? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
