Not Your Uncle’s SSR - The Chevrolet SSR for 2006

The restyled SSR Base is equipped with a 6.0-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a Tremec six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2005 version.
The SSR uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.
Vehicle Statistics
The dimensions of the SSR Base are 78.60 inches wide by 191.50 inches long. It sits 63.80 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 116.00 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.
There is a 36,000 mile, 36 month warranty with this vehicle, including a powertrain warranty of 36,000/36 miles/months. This is normal for this price range.
The manufacturer retail price (MSRP) was $39,240 when new. The dealer cost on the truck was $36,689. This price was high compared to the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.
Fuel Efficiency
The fuel system for the 2006 SSR is a SFI system, running on gasoline . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The 25.00-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.
The SSR Base received an fuel efficiency rating of 13 - 15 MPG driving in the city and 19 - 20 when it came to long-distance. The gas-powered SSR is a non-hybrid truck.
We Think…
The 2005 model began the promise of the Chevrolet SSR. The 2006 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the SSR Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
