Chevrolet Corvette

Several things can be said about the Chevrolet Corvette series: including the polarizing reactions most buyers have towards their car. The eight-cylinder engine is at the heart of the strong emotions, it is powerful for its class and delivers a large amount of torque.

The restyled Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car is equipped with a 5.7-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Chevrolet engine is mated to a General Motors four-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 1997 version.

The fuel system for the 1998 Corvette is a SFI system, running on gasoline . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Corvette uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by leaf front springs and leaf in the rear.

104.50 of wheelbase allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers. It sits 47.70 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The dimensions of the Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car are 179.70 inches long by 73.60 inches wide.

Pricing is a vital consideration when shopping for a car. The Chevrolet Corvette lists at $37,995 when new. The dealer cost on the car was $33,246. This price was average compared to the industry average price for a 2-door convertible.

The Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car received a miles-per-gallon rating of 17 - 18 in-city driving and 25 - 27 when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

The vehicle is available in Arctic White, Black, Fairway Green Metallic, Light Carmine Red Metallic, Light Pewter Metallic, Medium Purple Pearl Metallic, Nassau Blue Metallic, Sebring Silver Metallic, and Torch Red.

A powertrain guarantee is provided (50,000* miles/36* months), and a 50,000* mile, 60* month guarantee also comes with the Chevrolet Corvette. This is average compared to the rest of the car market.

The 1997 model began the promise of the Chevrolet Corvette. The 1998 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car will continue to be a profitable vehicle.

I’m in the market for a convertible next year when my lease is up. Should I buy one of these Chevrolets or hold out for next year’s Corvette?

Good article. At first I felt like I needed to refute your review of the Chevrolet Corvette, but after further reflection I can see your point of view. Perhaps my personal Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car is an abberation. What is everyone else’s experiences?
